camp curriculum

Day 1

  • Apron, Anyone?
To start camp, you’ll be given a canvas apron which you will make completely yours in 30 minutes of painting, printing, writing, smearing…whatever you like! It will be fun to make and fun to wear as you complete the rest of the week’s art projects.
  • A Sticky Situation!
You’ll bring a great stick you’ve found, or one supplied by CWCC to create a stick you can use for walking, hiking, decorating your room, sharing as a friendship stick, writing your dreams on, using as a magic wand, or just adding as a playful element to put in your yard or front porch. You’ll learn how to prep, design, paint, and embellish, using ribbons, beads, buttons, charms, and other items provided. You will finish your one-of-a-kind very special stick!

Supplies: Aprons and all painting/printing supplies provided. Bring a sturdy stick or select one provided by CWCC. All paints, markers and other embellishments are provided.

Day 2

  • It’s a Monster Face!
Design and needle felt the monster or critter face of your dreams! Using wool roving (it comes in zillions of colors and looks like cotton candy, special and easy-to-use needles, and a wool felting cushion, you’ll learn how to felt your own 8” x 12” face that will be finished off with canvas backing.
It will be such a special piece that you’ve designed and made, we hope you’ll hang it up in your home. Don’t worry if you don’t have a monster or critter face in mind; tons of ideas will be provided. We’ll help you design and draw the face you want. This is easy, fun, and colorful!

Supplies:
All materials needed are provided in the class.

Day 3

  • Printing, Painting, and Pictures, OH MY!
On Day 3 you’ll learn the magic of designing and printing your own papers and then using those papers to create a collage.
You will use stencils, shapes you’ve created, various textures, gel plates, brayers, paints, and a myriad of found papers like old song sheets, book pages, greeting cards, and more. You might get a little messy, and you will have a bunch of fun!
The class will focus on designing and printing variations of the same symbol/element of your choice, including but not limited to hearts, circles, squares, and houses, that you will cut and adhere to a canvas surface to create another piece to hang in your home.

Supplies: All materials needed are provided in the class.

Day 4

  • Assemblage with Your Initial: Assemblage is a collection or gathering of things.
There are no rules in this assemblage class! You’ll create a letter (your first or second initial) and then put together an assemblage with an unlimited number of bits and pieces and little trinkets and toys and anything that you think is fun or funny, interesting or mysterious – or just ANYTHING! You will be surprised how many creative ideas jump into your brain when doing assemblage! You’ll create your big initial and you’ll gather your other elements for the assemblage – buttons, strings, bottle caps, toys, blocks, charms, plastic rings, house keys, beads, zippers, and pencils…the list is endless.

Supplies: Parents/Caregivers, please help your child gather possible elements for the assemblage and send them with your student on Thursday. The remaining materials are provided.

Day 4 will conclude with a Camp-end Celebration. This short Celebration will begin at noon.
